Lulu Frost

Recently, I was flipping through a magazine and spied a necklace that was right up my alley. It looked like something I would make with vintage rhinestones. The caption sourced it as "Lulu Frost." I loved it and knew I would have to check them out on the web.

I found out that Lulu Frost also incorporated vintage estate jewelry into their pieces, and by looking at more examples of their work, they also tend to utilize mostly clear rhinestones pieces. Just like me! The founder, Lisa Salzer, comes from a family that has been involved in the estate jewelry business for generations. She started mixing the vintage pieces with modern elements to create one-of-a-kind jewelry, and in 2004, Lulu Frost was born.

Since then, things have really taken off for the company. I have been seeing them in a lot of publications recently, and this season, Lulu Frost collaborated with JCrew. Normally, Lisa's designs are one-of-a-kind and carry a pretty hefty price tag (necklaces average $400), but her 10-piece JCrew collection incorporates castings of vintage pieces (not the originals) and they are priced in the $80-$200 range.

A $185 necklace from the JCrew collection

I, of course, love Lulu Frost's jewelry, but I'm somewhat fearful people will think I am nothing but a mere copycat....especially given the coincidental "Lulu" name. Oh well...there isn't much I can do at this point, I just wish I could have thought of it a few years ago. Who knows, maybe I would have been the one in JCrew's catalog instead!

Here are some more of Lulu Frost's pieces. I have to say, some of them bear a striking resemblance to things I've made as well. :)

Earring Frenzy

Wow...I can't believe it has been almost a month since my last post! I knew it had been awhile, but I didn't realize it was that long ago. Shame on me!

I hadn't been making a whole lot of new pieces lately. We've been pretty busy since mid-November. We've had a wedding, Thanksgiving, and a week in Orlando. We came back from Orlando late Friday night, and I after getting caught up on cleaning and laundry Saturday, I finally had time Sunday to work on some things. The majority of what I make are necklaces...sometimes I find it difficult to make earrings because first off, I need to have 2 of the same thing, and secondly, they aren't as exciting for me from a creative standpoint. For some reason though, I got on a little bit of an earring roll. Before I knew it, I had cranked out 9 pair.  I also made some awesome necklaces, which I will post soon, but I wanted to share the earrings right away!
